English actor who is best known for his roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Four Desperate Men and Exodus.
He attended Beal Grammar Boys school. After graduating he joined the Merchant Navy at the age of 15 and served in the Second World War till he was medically discharged in 1946.
He was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
He ran a script printing business, and in 1991 opened a public speaking school.
He was married to Joan Maddern from 1949 to 1993. They had four daughters together.
